INSPECTION
PROCEDURE O-4: The horns do not sound while the security alarm is triggered. |

|  CAUTION
Whenever the ECU is replaced,
ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.
|
| |
| COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the horns do not sound, the horn input signal circuit or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.
In addition, it is possible that the security alarm function has been disabled by using
the adjustment function.
|
| POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Malfunction of the horn relay
- Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
- Damaged harness wires and connectors

| Step 1. Check the adjustment function.
Check that the security alarm function has been enabled by using the adjustment function.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 2  .
NO:
Enable the security alarm function using the adjustment function. (Refer to  .)

| Step 2. Check the operation of the hazard warning lamp.
Check that the hazard warning lamps illuminate normally.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 3  .
NO:
Refer to inspection procedure L-2 "The hazard warning lamps do not illuminate  ".

| Step 3. Check that the horns sound.
Check that the horns sound normally.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 4  .
NO:
Go to Step 7  .

| Step 4. Connector check: A-06X horn relay connector, C-220 ETACS-ECU
connector
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 5  .
NO:
Repair the connector.
|
| Step 5. Check the wiring harness between A-06X horn relay connector
terminal No. 3 and C-220 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No. 44.
NOTE: Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector C-116, and repair
if necessary.
- Check the output lines for open or short circuit.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 6  .
NO:
Repair the wiring harness.

| Step 6. Retest the system.
Check that the security alarm works normally.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Cope
with Intermittent Malfunction  ).
NO:
Replace the ETACS-ECU.

| Step 7. Connector check: A-06X horn relay connector
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 8  .
NO:
Repair the connector.
|
| Step 8. Check the horn relay.
Refer to GROUP 54A -
Horn  .
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 9  .
NO:
Replace the horn relay.
|
| Step 9. Measure the voltage at A-06X horn relay connector.
- Remove the relay, and measure at the relay box side.
- Voltage between A-06X horn relay connector (terminals 1 and 2) and body earth
OK: Battery positive voltage
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 11  .
NO:
Go to Step 10  .

| Step 10. Check the wiring harness between A-06X horn relay connector
(terminal Nos. 1 and 2) and the battery.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Cope
with Intermittent Malfunction  ).
NO:
Repair the wiring harness.

| Step 11. Connector check: A-22 horn (HI) connector, A-23 horn (LO)
connector
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 12  .
NO:
Repair the connector.

| Step 12. Check the wiring harness from terminal No.1 of A-22 horn
(HI) connector and of A-23 horn (LO) connector to horn relay connector terminal No.4.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 13  .
NO:
Repair the wiring harness.

| Step 13. Connector check: C-305 horn switch connector
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 14  .
NO:
Repair the connector.
|
| Step 14. Check the wiring harness between A-06X horn relay connector
terminal No. 3 and C-305 horn switch connector terminal No. 1.
NOTE: Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check clock spring connector C-308 and intermediate
connector C-116, and repair if necessary.
- Check the output lines for open or short circuit.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
Go to Step 15  .
NO:
Repair the wiring harness.

| Step 15. Replace the horns.
- Replace the horns.
- Check that the security alarm works normally.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 -

NO:
Replace the driver's side air bag module. (Refer to GROUP 52B -
Air
bag module and clock spring  .))
