INSPECTION PROCEDURE K-11: Either of the headlamps or high-beam indicator lamps does not illuminate <Vehicles with discharge headlamp>.
 CAUTION
 If the low-beam headlamps do not illuminate, carry out troubleshooting by reading through the precautions in GROUP 54A - Headlamps .
 CAUTION
 Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If any of the headlamps do not illuminate, the wiring harness connector(s), the bulb or the fuse may be defective or burned out.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of the headlamp bulbs
  • Malfunction of the high-beam indicator bulb
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
Step 1. Connector check: A-46 <low-beam, RH>, A-45 <low-beam, LH> headlamp assembly connector <2000> or A-48 <low-beam, RH>, A-47 <low-beam, LH> headlamp assembly connector <2400>, A-43 <high-beam, RH>, A-39 <high-beam, LH> headlamp connector, or C-05 <high-beam indicator lamp> combination meter connector
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES <the connectors are in good condition, but the low-beam headlamps do not illuminate>:  Go to Step 3.
YES <the connectors are in good condition, but the high-beam headlamps or high-beam indicator lamp do not illuminate>:  Go to Step 2.
NO < the connectors are not in good condition>:  Repair the defective connector.
Step 2. Check the bulb(s) of the headlamps or the high-beam indicator lamp.
Check the bulb(s) of the defective lamp.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 3.
NO:  Replace the bulb(s) of the defective lamp.
Step 3. Measure the resistance at A-46 <low-beam, RH>, A-45 <low-beam, LH> headlamp assembly connector <2000> or A-48 <low-beam, RH>, A-47 <low-beam, LH> headlamp assembly connector <2400>, A-43 <high-beam, RH>, A-39 <high-beam, LH> headlamp connector, or C-05 <high-beam indicator lamp> combination meter connector.
  1. Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
  1. Check the resistance between the lamp connector and body earth.
    • Resistance between A-46 <low-beam, right> headlamp assembly connector <2000> terminal No.2 and body earth
    • Resistance between A-48 <low-beam, right> headlamp assembly connector <2400> terminal No.3 and body earth
    • Resistance between A-45 <low-beam, left> headlamp assembly connector <2000> terminal No.2 and body earth
    • Resistance between A-47 <low-beam, left> headlamp assembly connector <2400> terminal No.3 and body earth
    • Resistance between A-43 <high-beam, right> headlamp assembly connector terminal No.2 and body earth
    • Resistance between A-39 <high-beam, left> headlamp assembly connector terminal No.2 and body earth
    • Resistance between C-05 <high-beam indicator lamp> combination meter connector terminal No.8 and body earth
    OK: 2 Ω or less
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 5.
NO:  Go to Step 4.
Step 4. Check the wiring harness from A-46 <low-beam, RH>, A-45 <low-beam, LH> headlamp assembly connector terminal No.2 <2000> or A-48 <low-beam, RH>, A-47 <low-beam, LH> headlamp assembly connector terminal No.3 <2400>, A-43 <high-beam, RH>, A-39 <high-beam, LH> headlamp connector terminal No.2, or C-05 <high-beam indicator lamp> combination meter connector terminal No.8 to body earth.
  • Check the earth wires for open circuit.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
NO:  Repair the wiring harness.
Step 5. Connector check: A-11X front-ECU connector
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 6.
NO:  Repair the defective connector.
Step 6. Check the wiring harness from A-46 <low-beam, RH>, A-45 <low-beam, LH> headlamp assembly connector terminal No.3 <2000> or A-48 <low-beam, RH>, A-47 <low-beam, LH> headlamp assembly connector terminal No.4 <2400>, A-43 <high-beam, RH>, A-39 <high-beam, LH> headlamp connector terminal No.1, or C-05 <high-beam indicator lamp> combination meter connector terminal No.9 to A-11X front-ECU connector No.6 <low-beam> or 10 <high-beam and high-beam indicator lamp>.
NOTE: Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector C-116 <high-beam indicator>, and repair if necessary.
  • Check the output lines for open circuit.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 7.
NO:  Repair the wiring harness.
Step 7. Retest the system.
Check that the headlamps and the high-beam indicator lamp illuminate/extinguish normally.
Q: Is the check result normal?
The lamps illuminate normally at both high and low beams.:  The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
If the low-beam headlamps do not illuminate:  Refer to GROUP 54A - Headlamp.
If the high-beam headlamps do not illuminate:  Replace the headlamp socket.
When the high-beam indicator lamp does not illuminate:  Replace the combination meter.
