INTERLOCK AND SHIFT LOCK MECHANISM CHECK
- Carry out the following check.

The selector lever pushbutton cannot be pushed, and the selector
lever should not be moved from P position.

The selector lever pushbutton can be pushed, and the selector lever
can be moved from P position.

|
Selector lever position: Other than P position
|
The ignition switch cannot turned to LOCK (OFF) position.

Selector lever position: P position
|
The ignition switch can be turned to LOCK (OFF) position.

Ignition switch position: ACC
|
Brake pedal: Depressed
|
The selector lever pushbutton can be pushed, and the selector lever
can be moved from P position.

Brake pedal: Not depressed
|
The selector lever pushbutton cannot be pushed, and the selector
lever should not be moved from P position.
|

|
The selector lever pushbutton can be pushed, and the selector lever
can be moved from R position to P position.
|
|
|
- If the above operations do not occur correctly, adjust the shift lock cable unit by
the following procedure.
- Remove the front floor console. (Refer to GROUP 52A -
Floor Console Assembly
) <LHD>
Remove the instrument panel centre console. (Refer to GROUP 52A -
Instrument
Panel Assembly ) <RHD>
- Move the selector lever to P position.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (OFF) position.

- Loosen the shift lock cable unit fixing bolt, and then while pushing the lever in direction
of B and the unit in direction of C, tighten the fixing bolt to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 12 ±
2 N·m
- Lift the lock guide to unlock the key interlocking cable.
- While pushing the cap of the key interlock cable in the direction of B, lower the
lock guide to lock the cable.
NOTE: The lock position at this time (the amount by which the cap is pushed) represents the
amount of adjustment for the key interlock cable. If the key interlock cable does not operate
correctly, adjust the lock position.
- After adjusting, check the operation once more. If the operation is still incorrect,
replace the shift lock unit. (Refer to
