OPERATION
  • Refer to Code No. P2122: Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (main) Circuit Low Input .
  • Refer to Code No. P2127: Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (sub) Circuit Low Input .
FUNCTION
  • Engine-A/T-ECU checks the accelerator pedal position sensor output signal characteristics for abnormal conditions.
TROUBLE JUDGMENT <General export, Gcc, Chile, Brazil, Argentina and vehicles for Hong kong>
Check Conditions
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor is normal.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage is 0.2 - 4.5 V.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage is 0.2 - 4.5 V.
  • Ignition switch is "ON" position.
  • Crank switch is "OFF".
Judgment Criteria
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage minus accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage is 1 volt or higher for 1 second.
or
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage minus accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage is 1 volt or higher for 0.2 second.
Judgment Criteria <Vehicles except for Hong kong>
  • Change of accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage per 0.025 second is lower than 0.1 V for 0.075 second.
  • The output voltage of accelerator pedal position sensor rises rapidly.
Check Conditions <Vehicles except for Hong kong>
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor is normal.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage is 0.5- 4.5 V.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage is 0.5 - 4.5 V.
  • Ignition switch is "ON" position.
  • Crank switch is "OFF".
  • After the completion of initial study of accelerator pedal position sensor.
Judgment Criteria <Vehicles except for Hong kong>
  • Difference between accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage and accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage is 0.39V or higher for 0.2 second.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage is 2V or lower for 0.2 second.
  • Change of accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage per 0.025 second is lower than 0.06 V.
  • Change of accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage per 0.025 second is higher than 0.1 V
TROUBLE JUDGMENT <Australia and South Africa except vehicles for Hong Kong>
Check Conditions
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor is normal.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage is 0.6 - 4.5 V.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage is 0.2 - 4.5 V.
  • Ignition switch is "ON" position.
  • Crank switch is "OFF".
Judgment Criteria
  • Change of accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage per 0.025 second is lower than 0.1V for 0.075 second.
  • The output voltage of accelerator pedal position sensor rises rapidly.
Check Conditions
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor is normal.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage is 0.5 - 4.5 V.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage is 0.5 - 4.5 V.
  • Ignition switch is "ON" position.
  • Crank switch is "OFF".
Judgment Criteria
  • Change of accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage per 0.025 second is lower than 0.06 V.
  • Using the formula given below, the voltage of 0.25 V or higher is obtained for 1 second: [accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage + 0.3 V]- accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage.
or
  • Change of accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage per 0.025 second is lower than 0.06 V.
  • Using the formula given below, the voltage of 1 V or higher is obtained for 0.2 second: accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage -[accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage + 0.3 V]
Check Conditions
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor is normal.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage is 0.2 - 4.5 V.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage is 0.2 - 4.5 V.
  • Ignition switch is "ON" position.
  • Crank switch is "OFF".
  • After the completion of initial study of accelerator pedal position sensor.
Judgment Criteria
  • Using the formula given below, the voltage of 0.39 V or higher is obtained for 0.2 second: [accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage + 0.3 V]- accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage is 1.7 V or lower for 0.2 second.
  • Change of accelerator pedal position sensor (sub) output voltage per 0.025 second is lower than 0.06 V.
  • Change of accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output voltage per 0.025 second is higher than 0.1 V.
PROBABLE CAUSE
  • Failed accelerator pedal position sensor
  • Open/short circuit in accelerator pedal position sensor circuit or loose connector contact
  • Failed engine-A/T-ECU
       
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 2 .
NO:  Repair.
STEP 2. Check accelerator pedal position sensor itself.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 3 .
NO:  Replace accelerator pedal position sensor.
       
  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Resistance between terminal No. 1 and earth. <Vehicles except for Australia, South africa and Hong kong>
  • Resistance between terminal No. 2 and earth. <Vehicles for Australia, South africa and Hong kong>
OK: 2 Ω or less
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 7 .
NO:  Go to Step 4 .
   
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 5 .
NO:  Repair.
           
  • Check earthing line for damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 6 .
NO:  Repair.
       
  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Resistance between terminal No. 7 and earth.
OK: 2 Ω or less
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 11 .
NO:  Go to Step 8 .
   
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 9 .
NO:  Repair.
           
  • Check earthing line for damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 6 .
NO:  Repair.
   
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 11 .
NO:  Repair.
           
  • Check power supply line for damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 12 .
NO:  Repair.
           
  • Check power supply line for damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 13 .
NO:  Repair.
           
  • Check output line for damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 14 .
NO:  Repair.
           
  • Check output line for damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES:  Go to Step 6 .
NO:  Repair.
